Meet the God of compassion
Burst into song! Shout for joy!
Do not be afraid. Do not fear disgrace. It is time to come back.
Your maker is your husband. You are the bride of the God of all the earth. God is calling you back.
‘For a brief moment I abandoned you,
but with deep compassion I will bring you back.
In a surge of anger
I hid my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting kindness
I will have compassion on you,’
says the Lord your Redeemer. Isaiah 54:7-8
Remember the days of Noah? The promise God made after the flood? That promise God made never to destroy the earth with a flood again? He’s making the same kind of promise here.
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,’
says the Lord, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10
Jerusalem will be rebuilt – a new Jerusalem with turquoise and rubies, lapis lazuli and sparkling jewels. There will be peace and righteousness.
So come. Come and eat if you are hungry. Come and drink if you are thirsty. Come and God will give you everything you need.
Listen. Listen that you may live.
Search for God. It is time.
He will have mercy. He will forgive.
‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,’
declares the Lord.
‘As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.’ Isaiah 55:8-9
So sing. It is time. There’s a lot to sing about right here.
You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12
