Because God has tried everything else. Everything else. Messengers, warnings, prophets, punishments, miracles, traditions, rituals…God has tried over and over and over again to connect with His people, to restore the relationship, to renew the covenant.
All He wants is to be known. Seven times in Ezekiel chapters 6 and 7, there’s this phrase – then they will know that I am the Lord. That is the only purpose for all this. It’s not even first and foremost a punishment. It’s a prompt. A reminder of who God is and what He is capable of. A reminder of all that has been lost. And can be recaptured.
God wants to be known. What is He doing in my life and in your life and in our world today to grab our attention?
How is He speaking to me and to you and to our world today?
Then you will know that I am the Lord.
