Inspiring phrases from 2 Peter: a faith as precious as ours
Inspiring phrase: a faith as precious as ours
Context:
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who through the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours.. 2 Peter 1:1
My response: Faith is a weird thing. Hard to define. Hard to acquire. For me, it’s a firm, unshakeable belief in something that cannot be proved. It is a gift, something you receive rather than something you earn. I’ve had people close to me say they want to believe and wish they had a faith and yet it isn’t there for them. I’ve prayed for them, yearned for it for them – and yet still there’s something missing. I don’t understand it. It says in the Bible ‘Seek and you will find’ and yet I know people who are seeking who have not found. However much knowledge you acquire, that isn’t enough. There’s a leap of faith that has to happen at some point, a paradigm shift that happens almost unconsciously.
And so yes, faith is precious. Life without my faith in God, that living hope that gives meaning to life, would be completely futile. I don’t know how I could have done my life so far without the hope that this faith gives me. Knowing that God is real and alive and always with me is a source of comfort and strength that I cannot live without.
My faith means everything to me. I will never take it for granted. I thank God that He has allowed me to experience this vibrant connection with Him. I will take time to nurture my faith and give it the right care and attention. I will never forget that this is a gift from God, not something I should ever feel smug or superior about. I will do all that I can to encourage others to experience the presence of God in a real way in their lives. Maybe at first, it’s about experiencing God through the love in action of those who do have faith, people like you and me, which points the way to the God of love.
So if you are fortunate enough to have faith, then never forget how precious that faith is. Treasure it more than life itself.
If you are still searching, then do not give up. Put yourself in situations where faith is present. Surround yourself with people of faith. Open your heart, soften your heart…allow the mystery of faith to enter in.
