Developing an attitude of gratitude #3: what a privilege!
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Philippians 1:27
That’s exactly where we left off yesterday.
We should be role models of how it looks to live in this world at this time as followers of Christ. Whatever we are going through. However tough life is.
What a challenge this is! Live a life worthy of the gospel of Christ. Jesus died and came back to life to show us the way, the truth and the life. Each one of us is invited to new life in him. And we are called to live this new life in all its fullness in recognition and gratitude for all that Jesus has done for us. Following Jesus’ way is a privilege, not a burden. It’s the best, most life-giving and fulfilling way to live.
Is that what people see when they spend time with us or read our Facebook posts?
In his letter to the Philippians, Paul goes on to explain what living a life worthy of the gospel of Christ looks like.
- stand firm in the one Spirit
- striving together as one for the faith of the gospel
- without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you
Confidence, unity and courage, that’s what this life looks like.
CONFIDENCE: Confidence not in ourselves and our own strengths and abilities, but confidence in the God we serve, this God who is the same yesterday, today and forever. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God, nothing that can destroy our faith, nothing that can make us waver or stumble in our belief.
UNITY: We work together. We work at all times for unity. We find what unites us rather than what divides us. We do not easily take offence or cause offence. We remember that we are one body, with God working through us and in us to bring His kingdom, His will here on earth as it is in heaven.
COURAGE: We do not need to be afraid. God tells His people over and over and over again throughout history ‘Do not be afraid, for I am with you’. And He’s telling us now. Wherever we go, God is there. Whatever we go through, God is with us. We have the God of the universe on our side.
Thank God.
We have so much to be thankful for, don’t we? What a wonderful God we serve!
