Psalm 111-115
FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES:
Breakfast outside- Making Mars Bar cake for my last day at work
- Trying on a preloved (fake) fur coat
- Getting through a really tough dance class
- A rare snuggle on the sofa with my man (and his dog. Dogs.)
PSALM 111: HE IS GOOD
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all who follow his precepts have good understanding.
To him belongs eternal praise. v10
This is where true wisdom starts. Of course it is. God created the world. God created us. God knows best how the world works. How we work. Doing it God’s way is the best way.
PSALM 112: THE BENEFITS OF TRUSTING GOD
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice. v5
Sometimes we make following God out to be really hard. A sacrifice. Picking up your cross and following…that sort of thing. And on one level, sometimes it is hard. But it is the best way. The best way to live life to the full. And that brings blessing. A priceless blessing. So it’s never about counting the cost. Because I wouldn’t want to live any other way.
PSALM 113: EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the Lord is to be praised. v3
We don’t praise God just but what we say or sing, but what we do and think. Our whole lives. The whole time.
PSALM 114: IMMENSE
Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water. v7-8
Only God can control the seas and the mountains. Only God can bring water from a rock. Only God can bring something from nothing.
PSALM 115: THE ONLY GOD
Not to us, Lord, not to us
but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness. v1
Let’s never be fooled. It is not about us. We can have tried our best, but let’s face it, any success or blessing we have received has come from God. He has put us in the right place at the right time. He has done this. Whenever we lose sight of that and put our trust in ourselves or in other people or things, then it will all begin to crumble. Because only God is God.
