Psalms 131-135

FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES:

  1. me and courtneyWatching the Park Run!
  2. Lots and lots of family time
  3. Mad photos
  4. So many lovely people gathering to celebrate my daughter’s 18th
  5. Everything coming together so well

PSALM 131: SOMETHING TO DO WITH MINDFULNESS

My heart is not proud, Lord,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
But I have calmed and quietened myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.
Israel, put your hope in the Lord
both now and for evermore.

That’s the whole psalm. And I think it has something to do with what we would now call mindfulness. On day at a time. One foot in front of the other. Living in the moment in a peace that comes from trust.

PSALM 132: A HOME FOR THE ARK

Lord, remember David
and all his self-denial. v1

A good one for all of you today coming out of your Lenten abstinence and discipline!

PSALM 133: UNITY

How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity! v1

We see the opposite often enough. Unity should be our priority.

PSALM 134: PRAISE

Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord
who minister by night in the house of the Lord.
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary
and praise the Lord.
May the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who is the Maker of heaven and earth.

The whole psalm again. Kind of sums it all up.

PSALM 135: SIMPLY THE BEST

I know that the Lord is great,
that our Lord is greater than all gods. v5

I know. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, I know.
