Psalms 141-145

FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES:

  1. indian mealAnother great walk with family and dogs
  2. Lingering over lunch – good banter
  3. Falling asleep in front of TV in the afternoon with the in laws
  4. A lovely Indian meal out
  5. Falling asleep in front of TV in the evening with my husband

PSALM 141: KEEP ME SAFE

Set a guard over my mouth, Lord;
keep watch over the door of my lips. v3

We all do it at times. Let things slip out that we can never take back. Say things we don’t mean. We sometimes even preface it with ‘I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but….’ Well don’t then. Learn to keep your mouth shut. Say less.

PSALM 142: I CRY TO YOU

Set me free from my prison,
that I may praise your name.
Then the righteous will gather about me
because of your goodness to me. v7

At times, we can feel trapped. In our job, our marriage, our responsibilities……..or imprisoned by depression, ill health, negative thinking, paranoia……..At some point in our lives, we all find ourselves in some kind of prison. Only God can set us free. Only God can show us freedom. Our hope is in our God.

PSALM 143: TEACH ME TO DO YOUR WILL

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life. v8

I admit it, I’ve never been a fan of the ‘Quiet Time’. It always seemed like another way for me to fail as a Christian and beat myself up. But I have to say, reading and writing about the Bible every morning for the past eighteen months has transformed my life. Each morning, I learn more about my God. About His nature and His ways. My faith has been deepened. My trust in Him is more authentic. To do God’s will, we must know His will and to know His will, we need to know Him.

PSALM 144: A NEW SONG

I will sing a new song to you, my God v9

I love this idea. That we can sing a new song. That we don’t have to keep singing the old song over and over again. Each day is filled with new opportunity. Each day can be different to the one before. We can be different. We can do it differently. New life. New opportunity. A new page. A new chapter. A new song.

PSALM 145: GOOD TO ALL

The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love. v8

It depends how you look at it. Those who want to prove that God does not exist have plenty to go at. Suffering, evil, atrocity, natural disasters, the state of the world. But too often, we stay silent. We don’t shout about all that is good in the world. All that God is doing. In the world and in our lives. There are examples all around us every single day of God’s grace and compassion and patience and love. Resurrection. Redemption. Restoration. Let’s make it known that our God reigns!
