Psalms 61-65

FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES:

  1. flower in sunThe sun on my face
  2. Finally finishing the painting in the hallway
  3. My worlds colliding – home and dance – at a party
  4. A great shift at work
  5. Taking my high heels off!

PSALM 61: PLEADING

From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  v2

Nice image. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. I like that. A good one to remember when I feel like I am drowning.

PSALM 62: MY ROCK AND MY SALVATION

Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge. v8

That’s prayer right there. People say they struggle with prayer. They don’t know what to pray for. They don’t know what words to use. The get distracted. If you’re pouring out your heart, you know what to say. You’re speaking from the heart. You’re saying what’s getting to you, what’s exciting you, what’s motivating you right now.

PSALM 63: YOU ARE MY GOD

I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me. v8

Who or what do you cling to? Who or what do you feel you couldn’t live without?

PSALM 64: HEAR MY COMPLAINT

Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.  v6

We see it all the time. Even our own mind and heart can deceive us at times.

PSALM 65: ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy. v8

It’s that whole ‘attitude of gratitude’ thing. It’s nothing new, you know. It’s not some recently invented self-help gimmick. God’s people have been lifting their eyes from their troubles and counting their blessings since the beginning of time. There is always something to thank God for. Always. Consider the world around you. Watch the sun rise. And respond.
