Psalms 16-20
FIVE SIMPLE PLEASURES
- Trying a new tea – apple and elderflower
- Yellow roses
- Listening to my daughter recount the funny story of her blood test – when she thought ‘practice nurse’ meant he was practising on her!
- Looking through my dad’s photos
- Blue skies as I’m driving down the A1
PSALM 16: OVERFLOWING WITH POSITIVITY
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. v8
This is the way. The best way. Like when Peter got out of the boat to walk on the water and while he kept his eyes fixed on Jesus and had confidence in him, everything was fine. This is the path to life, Life in all its fullness. Simple pleasures line the way. Blessings are there if we open our eyes.
PSALM 17: OUR PROTECTOR
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings. v8
Such comfort. Listening to ‘Hide me now’ right now. Watching it too. Great lyrics and beautiful images.
PSALM 18: GOD IS OUR ROCK
You, Lord, keep my lamp burning;
my God turns my darkness into light.
With your help I can advance against a troop;
with my God I can scale a wall. v28-29
This is our confidence. This is our hope. With God’s help, this girl can!
PSALM 19: GREAT ENCOURAGEMENT
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world. v1-4
Just look around you. Look around and be amazed.
PSALM 20: MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. v7
Who or what are we being encouraged to put our trust in? Who or what are the people around us putting their trust in? Who or what are we putting our trust in?
